GT6 released theirs, so of course Forza does now too. About 200 cars, most carried over from FM4 and its various car packs with some new ones sprinkled in, as well as a Day 1 DLC including the LaFerrari and 9 other yet unknown cars.

I have never ever cared about cars. It has always been what tracks do you have?

Interesting. The pirelli logo's are noticeably absent from the car.

Bad news... So far they've confirmed that 14 or so tracks will be on the disc. Nurburgring is apparently later DLC. These are the tracks on the disc:
Bernese Alps
Catalunya
Spa
Indianapolis
Le Mans
Laguna Seca
Mount Panorama
Prague
Road Atlanta
Sebring
Silverstone
Test Track Airfield
Top Gear test track
Yas Marina
So the other fake tracks are out. Infineon is out. Road America is out. Mugello is out. I have a feeling some may just take more time to recreate in their new track making thing, but this is certainly NOT welcome news.

Well, that's a massive disappointment.
As a loyal Forza fan, I can safely say that Turn 10 has pretty much lost all interest I had in this game.
Sad, really.
And, since it was one of the only console exclusive titles of the Xbox One I was interested in, this has me leaning towards getting a PS4 instead of an Xbox One first...whenever I get the chance to buy either...

Strange, didn't they brag about Pirelli help them with tire modeling on FM4?

They've fallen into the same "monetize everything" scheme that the rest of the gaming industry has. They don't understand that even though we're in a new generation of gaming and graphics, etc. that doesn't mean that the prices and cost of everything can just keep going through the roof.
In regards to Forza 4, including the cost of the game itself and the DLC, I spend well close to and probably over $100. That's stupidly ridiculous. Did I enjoy it? Sure. Would I have enjoyed it if someone came up to me and asked "Would you spend $100 for this game and all of these cars?" Hell no.
So this year I've declared that they will no longer get money from me in DLC. The game should have the cars and features from the beginning. And if new cars come out within the next year, then they should be free to those who bought the game originally on day one. I'm so sick and tired of getting "nickel'd and dime'd" by DLC on pretty much every game now.
Meanwhile I spent $40 on iRacing and get every new car that they put out for eternity. Yeah, I know which one I'm picking.

There has never been lettering on tires in the Forza series.
It makes the race cars look goofy, and nobody at T10 has said why they don't have it.

That's why I keep telling people get iRacing the initial sticker shock is there, but they don't disguise the overall cost like Forza does. Have a wheel for Forz 4? Congrats you get to buy a new one for Forza 5 because XBO doesn't support your old wheel.

Another point I missed lol. Thanks for pointing that out though, I totally forgot about that. Yeah, it's definitely not looking hopeful for me in regards to an Xbox One and Forza 5. I'll miss the photo mode and all of the fun times, but I may actually be switching to the dark-side and getting a Playstation first this time.

PS4 doesn't even have Gran Turismo and probably won't for a few years. Update your PC and get iRacing instead >:)

Oh I already religiously play iRacing. I just want something a little less serious to play at times. PC will always be where my true allegiance lies.

Where's the Starion? And while I'm at it, only 3 Mitsubishis and ONE Chrysler? That can't be a complete list.

It is, from the horse's mouth, complete. More cars will obviously be added in monthly car packs, but that list isn't released.

That's such crap, tho. Already spending $60 on the damn game, only having to shell out $12.99 for 7 new cars a month. I know it's a dead horse, but this seems extreme. What's the difference in number between Forza & GT in cars avail on disc?

Looks like almost the same list that is in Real Racing 3 for Android.

So, they're selling you half of Forza 4 for $60 and charging another $50 for the rest of it. No thanks. Fuck that.
Looks like I can save my $600.

I actually cancelled my preorder after this news. I want to wait to see what Day 1 DLC is and what track packs and things come out for it. Maybe I'll get out a bit cheaper after the new year.

GT6 is a little short of 1200 cars. I do not know how many are very very close and could be considered functionally the same (like the common complaint that GT games include 80 Skylines of the same generation).
The 'masthead' cars are different. Forza 5 includes the McLaren P1 on the disc, whereas it doesn't appear on GT6's list, for instance, but the opposite is true of the Corvette Stingray. The popular cars will likely appear in both games as DLC if they aren't on the disc, though GT6 has a definite edge in sheer number and variety of cars (particularly of older manufacture). I mean GT6 has a Tesla Model S and a Fisker Karma, as well as the Leaf, Insight, and Prius. Forza 5 does not include any electric cars/hybrids (even though the Prius, Leaf, and Volt appeared in Forza 4).
Curiously, each game only has one 2014 model year car on disc. Forza 5 has the Fiesta ST and GT6 has the Corvette Stingray.
